Here is an example of the same photo cropped to different sizes, both with a proportional border. I cropped the image down so that there would be one inch missing from each side. I then added canvas, first .01 or .05 inches and then .9 or .45 inches depending on the size that I cropped the images down to.

I love the colors in this shot, that’s why I chose to use it for my fine art template. I drew out five boxes, and using a clipping mask, inserted the image into the mask.  I used Adobe Caslon as the font for this template. I pulled the font colors out of the image. I think that this format would work well for a group of senior photos for a high school student, if you put a different photo in each box.

I really loved the light on these shots. The temple is a little blown out, but it’s not as bad as it could be. I think that these have potential to make really cool HDR shots. I took twice as many pics as I used, but my computer couldn’t handle the processing.

I took these from the seventh floor of the Red Lion Hotel in Idaho Falls.  I Took many more pictures, but when I tried to merge them the program would crash. These are the only ones that worked. I figured I would go for something classic. I really loved the light from the sunset-ish time of day. Best light all week.

With this one I chose to use the pre-made template rather than make my own. I changed all of the text to fit my theme. I have enough problems with clipping masks that I didn’t want to make a template until I know how to use it.

I figured this week being Halloween and all, I would get shots that remind me of the holiday. They all have some kind of fall or Halloween feel to them, except the chess piece, I just thought that was a cool shot that turned out well.

This week I did the color replacement and luminosity edits. these were fun edits to do because they are so different. on is very subtle and powerful when used correctly, the other is very blatant and “artistic”.  The reason for replacing the colors I chose on the flowers was because it reminded me of some roses I’ve seen and I though it was amazing how replacing on color in one spot and another color in another spot can make an all new flower. I thought my nephew was a cute subject for the luminosity effect.

This week I wanted to get portraits of some of the best looking people I know, so I picked my wife first. She’s very photogenic and we work great together. The second was my nephew Jacob. He always smiles more for me than anyone. Because it is fall and there are so many leaves on the ground, I thought that they would make for fun pictures. I wish that in the shot of Amanda she was looking down so that more of her face was visible, but I don’t think that a portrait has to be just a face so much as a personality captured in film.

The first picture is an HDR I did of the courthouse at night. I love all of the light coming out of the windows, the lines and the colors. Unfortunately it turned out a little bit crooked. The second one is a shot of Trax in Salt Lake. I love the lines it creates. The gaps between cars made it so that the cars and stuff on the other side of the train became visible too. The last shot is a self portrait. I flashed myself very very very quickly with an LED. I think it looks creepy.

I used masks on both of these edits. For the first one I went with the “painted on” look. I also added the caption of his name and the date of his wedding. For the second image I wanted to try out an edge effect that I found on line. I thought it would be funny to apply it to my friends new wedding photos I took. Using the lasso tool, a mask, and differing the opacity of the brush creates an edge that looks as though it has been torn by hand.
